UOBD follows the North American model in the design of its programs and curricula. Therefore, students who are interested in applying for admission to a medical school must earn an undergraduate degree (Bachelor), complete Pre-Medical (Pre-Med) Studies course requirements, and sit for and pass the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) in order to become eligible for admission to medical schools.
A Bachelor of Science (BS) is the perfect foundation for Pre-Med students in their academic journey. All Pre-Med courses are basic science courses (28 credits) which, along with two Social Sciences courses (6 credits), are part of UOBD’s accredited BS programs. Accordingly, majoring in any of the basic science fields equips Pre-Med students with a solid and extensive knowledge base on which they can build their medical studies once they gain admission to a medical school.
The curriculum of the BS in Biology includes all the Pre-Med courses that are recommended to prepare students for the MCAT. Students majoring in other departments of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences or in other Faculties where the Pre-Med courses are not all covered, can still opt to complete the Pre-Med courses as Free Electives, take the MCAT and become eligible to apply for admission to medical schools.
The Pre-Med coursework recommended to prepare students for the MCAT is the following:
|Basic Sciences Field
||Minimum Required Credits*
Typically, BIOL 101, 102, 103, 104
Typically, CHEM 103, 211, 213, 205
